Choosing Which Label to Use
The program provides three common label templates - tabular, linear and two-column - that can be customized to accommodate specific label needs. Other templates based on these formats can also be created by the user.Â
Tabular Label Template
The Tabular label is the most commonly used label type for supplement panels. When creating a new label the default label type will be the tabular version.
Linear Label Template
Generally, a linear label may be used if the product package is too small to accommodate a tabular label. According to the labeling regulations (CFR 101.9j13iiA), a linear label may be used "if the product has a total surface area available to bear labeling of less than 12 square inches, or if the product has a total surface area available to bear labeling of 40 or less square inches and the package shape or size cannot accommodate a standard vertical column or tabular display on any label panel. Nutrition information may be given in a linear fashion only if the label will not accommodate a tabular display."Â
Two-Column Label Template
This is used for certain packages and labels that need to accommodate a long list of ingredients.
