Mexico Nutrient Content Claims Quick Reference

Nutrient Content Claims for Mexico must meet the NOM086 conditions outlined below. For all claims the serving size must be the ones mentioned in NOM086 Appendix A.

Nutrient content claim: Nutrition claim that describes the level of a nutrient contained in a food. (Examples: “Calorie Free”; “Low Fat”.)

If the serving is <= 30 g, then <= 40 Calories per 50 grams.

The food provides 40 Calories (170 kJ) or less per serving. For serving sizes 30 grams or smaller, then the food provides 40 Calories or less per 50 grams.

Foods that are naturally low calorie must be clarified.

The Calories per serving are at least 25% lower than the Calories per serving in the reference food.

The Calories per serving are at least 25% lower than the Calories per serving in the reference food.

The  foods  being  compared  should  be different  versions  of  the  same  food  or  similar  foods.  The  foods  being compared should be clearly identified.

If the serving is <= 30 g then <= 1.0 g saturated fat per 100 g AND <= 10% Calories from saturated fat.

The food provides 1.0 g or less per serving of saturated fat AND contains 15% or less Calories from saturated fat.
For serving sizes 30 g or smaller, then the food provides 1.0 g or less of saturated fat per 100 g AND contains 10% or less Calories from saturated fat.

Foods that are naturally low in saturated fat must be clarified.

For serving sizes <= 30 g then <= 20 mg cholesterol per 50 g.

The food contains 20 mg of cholesterol or less per serving. For serving sizes 30 g or smaller, then the food contains 20 mg or less of cholesterol per 50 g.

Foods that are naturally low cholesterol must be clarified.
