Genesis R&D Manual
Claims
The FDA allows three types of label claims:
health claims - on relationships between a nutrient or a food and the risk of a disease or health-related condition
structure/function claims - to describe the role of a nutrient or ingredient on the structure or function of the human body
nutrient content claims - to highlight the amount of a specific nutrient in a food
While Genesis R&D doesn’t evaluate your Recipe for health or structure claims, it does apply mathematical rules from the country-specific regulations to come up with a selection of nutrient content claims.
Nutrient Content Claims
It is ultimately up to you to make the final decisions regarding whether or not to use nutrient content claims, and which ones are actually appropriate for your situation. You can Check and Uncheck content claims within the Claims section.
In the U.S. claims must meet the qualifications for the correct reference amount.
In Canada, the claims must meet the qualifications for both per serving and reference amounts.
It is up to the user to provide the portion size so that accurate nutrient content claims can be suggested.
The regulations should be consulted for specific guidelines regarding the publishing of nutrient content claims for your packaging.
Nutrient Content Claims are based on the Label Category selected (Edit Label > General > Category) (e.g. if U.S. 1990 NLEA is selected, Nutrient Content Claims will be based on 1990 %DVs and regulations.)
Note: We currently support Nutrient Content Claims for the United States, Canada and Mexico (versions 11.5 and later.)
