Ingredient Functions Within Recipes

After you have named and entered a size for your recipe you enter foods/ingredients by prompting the program to search for specific ingredients (foods, additives, other Recipes, etc.) then enter the selected item into your list.

Searching for Ingredients

    1. In the Search For box, type the ingredient you wish to add to your list, either as the whole word or partial words. For example, if you are looking for orange juice, type in orang juic. (More information on searches here.)
    2. Press Return on the keyboard or click the Search button. This opens the Select Recipe or Ingredient window. From this window, you can either select a food item or, if the list is too extensive, further specify your search.

Display User Code, ESHA Code, Government Code, Product and/or the Supplier columns by right-clicking and checking your selections.

Note: To see a preliminary nutritional analysis of an ingredient before adding it to the Recipe, highlight it and choose Preview.

Double-click the item or highlight the item and click the Select button to add this food to your intake list.

Previewing Ingredients

To make sure the Ingredient is the one you want to add to your Recipe, you can preview this item from within the Select Recipe or Ingredient screen.

Select the Preview button.

The Preview screen will tell you the Nutrients, Yields & Measures, Cost, Pyramid value, Exchange values, Groups, Notes and Ingredient Statement information for the Ingredient.

Printing the Ingredient Search Results

        • Select the Print list button.

Exporting Ingredient Search Results

        1. Select the Export list button. This opens a Save As dialog box.
        2. Name the file and choose where to save the file.
        3. Click Save.

Quantity, Measure and Comments

After you have selected your Ingredient, the modify Foodlist Item window opens with your cursor in the Quantity box.

Enter Quantity and Measure

  1. Type a number in the Quantity box.
  2. Press Enter.
  3. Select the Measure from the given options. (You can click the measure with your mouse, type in the number, or type in the first letter of the measure.)
  4. Enter comments if desired. This is an optional text field and will not affect any analyses. Comments will appear on your Recipe screen.
  5. Press Enter or select the OK button to add the Ingredient to the intake list.

The item is entered into your list, and the cursor reappears in the Search box ready for you to enter the next item. Continue entering the remaining items in the same manner.

Modify previously entered Quantity and/or Measure

  1. Double-click the item you wish to modify in the list of Ingredients in your Recipe; Right-click the item and select Modify; or select the Modify Item icon from the Ribbon
  2. Click inside the Quantity box.
  3. Change the Quantity and/or the Measure (as explained earlier).
  4. Press Enter or select OK.

The updated Quantity/Measure will appear in the list.

Moving Ingredients

    1. Left-click on the item and hold down the mouse button
    2. Drag the item to its new position

Copy and paste an ingredient

    1. Ctrl+ click on the item to copy it. Continue holding down the mouse button.
    2. Drag to where you want to place the item. A copy of the item will automatically be pasted, and the original of this item will remain where it was.

Entering Notes

You may wish to use the Notes field for cooking/serving instructions or other notes for your recipe. 

  1. Select a Notes tab. (Notes1, Notes2 or Notes3)
  2. Click to place your cursor in the Notes field.
  3. Type your Instructions.
  4. The notes will continue to appear in the Notes field. You can choose to print or not to print the notes with your reports.

Display/Print the Notes

If the Notes field is not displayed on-screen

    1. Go to Preferences and select General
    2. Under the Display section, click the Show Notes box.

To print the notes

    1. Click Print
    2. Check the Notes fields you want to print
