Canada Nutrition Fact Panels

Canadian Labels differ from U.S. labels in rounding rules, nutrient definitions, format, sizes, percentages and tolerances. The basic usage is, however, similar.

Generally, if possible, use this format.

Use this when the space doesn't allow for a Standard/Vertical Full label.

Canadian Standard/Vertical Simplified

Use if at least seven of the caloric value and core nutrient amounts may be expressed as “0”.

Canadian Tabular/Horizontal Full

Use when Standard Vertical will not fit.

Canadian Tabular/Horizontal Simplified

Use when Standard/Vertical will not fit and nutrients meet the requirements for Simplified format.

Canadian Linear Full

Use on small packages.

Canadian Dual Format – Different Amounts of Food

You can use the Dual Format – Different Amounts of Food label to provide nutrition information for a food in more than one amount. For instance, foods may have different uses and be consumed in different amounts, or be shown in different units of measure. This label will show the quantitative measures for the primary serving of food and only Calories plus %DV for the secondary serving amount.

Advanced Labels

Canadian Aggregate - Different Kinds of food

The Aggregate Label is used when individual items are packaged together (a variety pack of breakfast cereals, for example). Information for each item is listed in a separate column.
